Review: Call of Duty – Vanguard

At the end of September, I had the opportunity to test the beta version of Call of Duty: Vanguard and was already impressed by the extremely detailed graphics. So it was with great zeal that I traveled back to WWII to experience a new one Call of Dutyadventure when the sharp version steams down on the editorial staff from Activision.

IN Call of duty: Vanguard then we get to follow a special unit that is deep behind the enemy’s lines. It is not an easy mission they have and already in the first act you brutally lose members of the squadron. We get to get to know the remaining soldiers better and through a series of flashbacks we get to know why they are on the mission. The story is well played and advanced and several times I forgot that it is a game I play – because it is so engaging!

During the flashback sequences, you take control of a new member of the group and everyone has their special abilities: One of them can, for example, climb and move smoothly through air drums and other cramped spaces, another has very sharpened senses so he can more or less experience bullet-time sequences. This will be very handy later in the assignment, to know your team inside out.

As I mentioned, I was very impressed by the incredibly detailed graphics. I found myself trapped in admiring all the details of a scrap car instead of ducking for a crazy soldier who attacks me. Everything is also incredibly beautifully lit framed by fog, smoke, rain and other effects, so a very realistic environment is created.

The controls are as tight and easy to handle as they usually are when it comes to COD and you can also set exactly how sensitive you want them to be. You can really go into the smallest detail and customize your gaming experience, which is a big plus. You also spend a lot of time in aircraft and other vehicles and it is possible to set the controls for those sections separately. Really flexible and smartly thought out!

The sound is immersive and if you sit with a surround system or a pair of 7.1 headphones, you will have a really cool experience. You hear the bullets whistling around your head, the steps and the screams of attack from soldiers trying to chop you down from behind.

except that Call of Duty: Vanguard is rudely nice and well-played, it has a well-developed multiplayer mode where you can really experience adrenaline-pumping action. Same thing here; you can control your experience in detail so that it suits you best. The only thing is that you need to be quite skilled to survive, usually the others who are on the server are very good COD players who make careless jam out of one directly if you do not have your tongue right in your mouth.

In addition to everything else that is in Call of Duty: Vanguard then there is also a custom zombie section. Go online, find a gang of survivors and embark on a completely separate adventure where you are constantly attacked by bloodthirsty zombies. Really cool!

In summary, so be it Call of Duty: Vanguard also this year clearly one must. The only negative I could find with the whole game are two small, silly flaws. One is that the game has some small graphics bugs. It is certainly something that can be solved with a patch later and the other is that the enemy you have killed disappears after a while. It feels a bit old-school and silly. So turned to perfection!
