The Swedish game studio Thunderful, whose team is previously behind Steamworld games, releases a new game, The Gunk, for both PC and Xbox. The Gunk is a story-driven sci-fi exploration game set on an alien planet. Where a strange enchanting mourning has put the whole planet in its power.
In The Gunk, you play as Rani, one half of a space-scraping duo who stumble upon a seemingly deserted planet, filled with a strange enchanting mourning they call “the gunk.” Rani and her partner Becks wonder if their scrap days are finally over thanks to their strange discovery. But there are more important questions to answer: what is “the gunk?” How did it get here? What was the planet like before? And what happened to the ancient society from which now only ruins remain?
The Gunk focuses on exploration with a variety of wonderful and different alien worlds to discover. There are landscapes like mountainous valleys, deep jungles, and more surprises. Because of “The gunk”, all these areas are now completely bare. But while you clean it up with Rani’s mourning vacuum glove, you’ll also find a thriving ecosystem underneath. Seemingly supplanted by the strange and equally destructive “the gunk.”
As she explores, Rani can scan around her to make new discoveries and learn more about the planet. These discoveries will quickly fill out her logbook. There, interested players can cave down to find out what happened on this mourning planet.
“We are really happy.”
“We’re really excited that our Xbox and PC gamers will finally be able to visit this planet we’ve created for them in The Gunk.” Says the game’s director, Ulf Hartelius, in a press release. “There has been a desire to be able to tell something more serious than what people have seen in our previous games. That’s what we hope to give them in our numerous sci-fi world where I hope players will have a lot of fun! ”
The Gunk was released on December 16th and can be purchased at the microsoft store for SEK 249.
